Volunteer Weekend: Winding Down Summer with Seva and Sangha (Residential Only)
September 13 - 14, 2025
Residential Event including Dharma Sunday on site with Lama Willa
Wonderwell Mountain Refuge cares for us in many ways, seen and unseen, and always is in need of our care and service. The word for service in Sanskrit is “seva”. Seva does not just mean offering help without compensation. It means “selfless service” and it is one of the most important spiritual practices in the Buddhist tradition. By practicing seva, we loosen the bonds of egotism and strengthen the habit of altruism, the essence of compassion in action.
We welcome you to offer seva and savor time with sangha by joining us for a weekend of volunteering to help with outdoor and indoor projects that nurture our Refuge’s buildings and land —and our hearts!
Bring your motivation and Wonderwell will provide free overnight accommodation, meals and fun, relaxing breaks. Come for any part of the weekend for work, play, food and rest.On Sunday morning, you’ll have the opportunity to join Dharma Sunday at Wonderwell as Lama Willa shares about Mycelial Wisdom IV: Becoming a Disciple of Gaia.
Here is a reflection from Dennis Harrington, volunteer and retreat manager at the April Volunteer Weekend:
“As always seems to be the case, all who gave something took away far more than they offered. For me, the weekend redefined sangha. While I had felt its embrace through NDF and Wonderwell, this weekend, sangha became a verb. It was the capital “s” Sangha, with the thousand hands of Chenrezig working together to lovingly maintain the container that holds us all with such care.”
