Discover the living current of wisdom that flows through authentic lineage transmission by exploring how transmission operates as a vehicle for awakening—bridging centuries, dissolving distance, and connecting us directly with the luminous mind of the Buddha. Through study, reflection, and dialogue, we’ll uncover how devotion, blessing, and transmission sustain this unbroken stream of realization in our own lives today.

In this eight-week study course, Lama Liz and Ron invite participants into an exploration of the power and potency of authentic lineage transmission. Together, we will investigate how lineage serves as a vehicle for awakening through time and space, grounding us in a flow of potent energy that reaches back to the Buddha himself.

Please join us to:

  • Trace the historical and experiential dimensions of how the diverse schools of Tibetan Buddhism transmit their teachings
  • Learn specific approaches to teaching and transmission as articulated in the Nyingma, Kagyu, Sakya, Gelugpa, and Rime traditions
  • Explore the role of blessing and samaya in maintaining lineage purity
  • Examine the three types of transmission and their transformative function
  • Deepen devotion as a living, embodied practice

Together, we will explore lineage transmission not merely as a formal structure, but as a living stream of realization—an unbroken current that continues to awaken hearts and minds. Through text study, reflection, and discussion, we will deepen our understanding of the power and vitality of authentic lineage as an ongoing, embodied experience. We will consider the ways blessing and samaya preserve the integrity of this transmission, the three modes through which teachings are passed, and the transformative potential of devotion as a way of being.

Required Texts:

  • Indestructible Truth: The Living Spirituality of Tibetan Buddhism by Reginald Ray

Program Cost

Our program fees provide essential support to our non-profit operations and NDF’s mission to spread the Dharma in accessible, relevant, and creative ways. Our goal is that no one misses out on our events due to lack of funds. Thanks to our generous donors, we are able to offer tiered pricing and additional support to fit varied financial situations:

  • May All Beings Benefit! *– supporting access for all and general support for NDF operations
  • A Middle Way – covering the base cost
  • Held in Sangha Loving-kindness – offering ease when financial resources are limiting

If the lowest cost tier creates an obstacle to your attendance, please see our financial support options on the registration page. The process is simple and does not require extensive information. Financial aid is immediately approved using discount code options that allow you to contribute the most you are able while honoring your particular resources.

* The difference between the May All Beings Benefit! tier and the Middle Way tier will be considered a tax-deductible donation and will be acknowledged as such in writing. Contributing at this level helps us offer financial aid to other participants. Thank you!!

Access to Recordings

NDF offers unlimited access to recordings, which are available in your user dashboard (more information about user accounts provided in a pre-retreat letter). If you have a user account, please register with the same email you use to log into your dashboard. If not, an account will be created for you using your registration address.

Availability will vary depending on the type of event and the backlog for our precious resource volunteers. Thank you for your patience.
