As climate disruption accelerates and our political systems break down, as the Covid virus surges and racial injustices continue unabated, our emotions are high, frequent, and powerful. We stand on the brink of the dissolution of our democracy in the United States and the collapse of our value systems and the laws created in this country to maintain peace and order. Lies and deceptions have become the dominant discourse and ethical action is degraded by personal greed, power-mongering, and overt aggression. In addition, we anxiously await the appearance of new strains of the coronavirus, fearful of their contagiousness and deadliness. In the face of these layers of suffering, there is no avoiding emotional reactivity and fallout.
While many spiritual traditions, including the Buddhist tradition, offer teachings for working with powerful emotions, the branch of Buddhism known as the Vajrayana celebrates extreme emotionality as a gateway to full liberation. The Vajrayana was made for these times specifically because it takes advantage of our out-of-control feelings and harnesses their energy in the service of liberation. Join Lama Liz for this two-part teaching focusing on the power of practicing in the charnel ground to support and transform our emotional experience from suffering to ease, relaxation, and resilience.
Dharma Sundays with Natural Dharma Fellowship are now taking place most Sundays. These sessions, led by highly trained NDF Dharma and guest teachers, include guided meditation, teachings, and time for discussions. A wide range of topics are offered at the discretion of the teacher. On one Sunday per month, we are offering our year-long Dharma Dialogues program during this same time slot.
