This four-day retreat will provide an opportunity for deep practice of both shamatha and vipashyana meditation while examining the luminous and empty nature of mind.

Drawing from the Dzogchen texts of Düdjom Lingpa, the Mahamudra texts of the Ninth Karmapa, and the teachings of B. Alan Wallace, we will begin by exploring a full progression of shamatha practices from breath meditation to merging mind with space. Then, with the refined skill of close observation provided by shamatha and with the probing questions of vipashyana, we practice directly and nonconceptually experiencing the nature of the mind and the objects appearing to it.

The sources for these practices are considered to be advanced Buddhism, but this clear and systematic presentation is suitable for all levels. Long time practitioners may find an exhilarating new approach, and even beginners will learn a comprehensive foundation and full spectrum of meditation skills to take home.

Wonderwell Mountain Refuge strives to offer retreats in a manner that is non-cost prohibitive and inclusive to persons of all means. If the full retreat cost would create an undue financial burden, we encourage persons to apply for scholarship and work-study. Whether one needs to request aid to defer a large or small portion of the cost of a retreat so as not to incur a financial burden, we strive to accommodate you.
