What would our lives be like if we really showed up in the here and now? If we made a priority of stopping to smell the roses? So much of our time is spent in rumination, distraction, and overwhelm.
The contexts we inhabit, including our technological ones, habituate us to living just a little outside of our bodies and our sense fields, a little outside of the present moment.
We rarely pause long enough to consider what might be at stake: the loss of connection to beloved others, the loss of embodied awareness, the loss of access to the fullness and majesty of what is unfolding right in front of us.
If there is one thing that a meditation practice teaches us, it is that while presence is powerful, it is not a given. To come present is a subtle, deep art. It takes practice to return to our senses and bodies, to love what is here, and to attune to our own state or the state of another.
But it is a worthwhile effort. A cultivation of presence links us to the vibrant, open possibilities and potentials right in front of us, right here right now, and helps us ground in the powerful humility of the real.
